How to cook eco

What's cooking in the pot? A saving of over 200 euros per year! This is not about investments or solar panels, but about energy saving is ecological cuisine. Are you sure your pot is not harmful to health? For example, non-stick pans are not safe at all!

Eco-sustainability is an important activity that arises in everyday life. Even in the kitchen, a lot can be done to reduce the environmental impact and pollution, which is why it is important cooking eco.
From reducing consumption to recycling, to choosing the right products: here are some responsible behaviors for a life in the name of ecology, starting with kitchen.

The match of savings in the kitchen, not everything is played in the pantry. The amount of energy that is invested in cooking food has its value. It is advisable to find the right pot to choose the right stove. For a good performance of the stove, the pot must never exceed two centimeters the diameter of the highest possible flame. When you see tongues of fire coming out of the bottom of the pot, it means that gas is being wasted. A large pot on a large stove is always preferable to a narrow, tall pot on a small stove. Finally, use the lid as soon as you can, this significantly decreases cooking times and therefore does save energy.

The main tool of whom eco-sustainable cuisine is the pressure cooker: it uses steam to reach higher temperatures than any other pot, thus significantly reducing cooking times and consuming 25 percent less gas than a normal pot.

Cook so eco friendly and at low temperatures avoiding, for example, fried or stewed dishes, in favor of sauteed, steamed or foil dishes, types of cooking that not only better preserve the nutritional potential of foods, but allow considerable energy savings.

How to choose "green" pots.
Earthenware, copper and terracotta are not among the most environmentally friendly pans currently on the market: these containers are coated with some substances which, when they reach high temperatures, become toxic to humans.

Cookware with heat tends to release minimal but harmful amounts of toxic substances (cadmium, arsenic and selenium), contained in enamels and coatings. This is why some manufacturers have chosen to make pots with eco-sustainable processes and materials. The group Bionatural produces refractory stone and red clay pans: they ensure uniform cooking, avoiding the use of fats such as butter and oil, while keeping the flavors unaltered.

In the choice we can address the ecological ceramics, whose composition includes natural alkaline substances (calcium, barium, boron, sodium and potassium), the foods cooked in them do not absorb anything negative and harmful to health.

Natural terracotta pots and pans are of great importance in the eco-sustainable field: these natural materials have the peculiarity of not affecting the flavors of food in the least, they are practical and simple to use.
Just a little trick before using them for the first time, you will notice a particular smell, to eliminate it just immerse the pot for three hours alternating in hot or cold water.

Another completely natural material is soapstone, it is a refractory stone that resists high temperatures well. It has the peculiarity of passing directly from the flame to the table, without being affected by thermal changes, thus becoming from a pot for cooking to real serving dishes without having to use other dishes and also cutting the costs of washing.

Bad idea for those who choose non-stick pans: the Teflon (the material with which they are coated) is made with perfluoroctanoic acid, therefore highly toxic to humans and the environment. Instead, you can opt for non-toxic and ecological pans, such as those in recycled aluminum which are free of Teflon.
